A wedding in the Costa Brava...

Head away from the city centre and out to the countryside...surround yourself with greenery and fairy lights and show your guests the beautiful undiscovered villages and beaches of the Costa Brava..

One of the most beautiful & picturesque places to get married in Catalunya is the Costa Brava where the hilltop towns are described as the Catalan Tuscany and many of the beaches are small quiet coves with clear blue water.

Our good friends got married in the small castle town of Begur in a stunning outdoor venue which overlooks the castle and village lights. Begur is five minutes from the coast (Costa Brava) and its beautiful cove beaches and about an hour and a half´s drive from Barcelona. As such, this area is a popular wedding destination for the people of Catalunya.

1) Can Marc (above & below) is an outdoor venue surrounded with greenery & impressive views over the little town of Begur. It provides the perfect setting for a chic rustic wedding and is only a walk away from the hotels. Unfortunately it is difficult to reserve this venue and so below are some other equally beautiful options for venues in this area...

2) The Hotel Convent in Begur is 100 metres walk from the beach and has lush green gardens which make the perfect rural setting for a wedding. The advantage of this venue is that you can hire out the entire hotel and grounds (25 rooms) and have it all for yourselves and your guests. The best option for the wedding banquet is to set up a marquee in the grounds. The hotel helps you with the organisation & catering for your special day and are really friendly.

Hotel Convent and gorgeous grounds for a wedding

3) La Plaça Madremanya is a rustic & charming boutique hotel in the middle of a tiny village near the Costa Brava. It can host initimate weddings but is also known for its incredible catering which is known to be one of the best in the area. (Also definitely recommend this hotel for a holiday break...)

4) El Castell D´Empordà is where we celebrated our wedding day just over a year ago and I really believe it´s one of the most beautiful settings for a wedding in this area.

The castle was converted into a 4 star hotel & restaurant and has real charm and incredible views. The food is great and the warm castle up-lighting and greenery make it a perfect location for a special day.

The hotel help you with recommendations for florists, photographers etc and are flexible with the dinner options for the wedding banquet. There are indoor and outdoor options for dining and a suitable covered area if the weather is a little cooler than expected. The castell can host weddings of up to 180 guests.

Here are a few photos from our wedding...

  4. Hi Angela.

Fantastic blog, thanks for sharing. We are getting married at Castell D'Emporda next year, it's beautiful.

I was wondering which church you married in and whether it was a religious ceremony or a blessing? We visit Castell d'Emporda and although their chapel is beautiful I am worried it might be a bit small.

    Thanks

  7. Hello - apologies for commenting on a post from 2014 but we are getting married at Castell Emporda next year. For your ceremony at Sant Pere how did you start to arrange this with the church and do you have any contact details for the church? Many thanks!
